Project Title:

Energy Efficiency for Rural Water Supplies - Operator Education

Related Services:

Energy

Project Summary:

UVLSRPC is working with US EPA and Granite State Rural Water Association in effectively educating rural water supply system operators about opportunities to increase energy efficiency for their systems.  The likely benefits to this effort include reduced energy consumption, improved system operations, and lower operational costs.  The cost savings can then be transferred to customers.

The following is the current plan for the revised program and the first stage of work is currently under way:

Stage 1:  Directly Engage Four Water Supply Systems

  • The Project Team have engaged four water supply systems to conduct detailed inventories and baseline assessments of energy usage for four water supply systems.  Participating systems identified at this time include the Cities of Claremont and Lebanon, Village Water District at Eastman in Grantham, and the Town of Enfield.]
  • Baseline energy inventory data will be conveyed to the electrical utility companies along with requests for the utilities to perform intensive energy audits of the water supply systems to identify energy efficiency opportunities and likely incentive programs to make improvements.

Stage 2:  Develop Energy Management Plans

  • The Project Team will follow-up with the participating water supply systems to aid in development of energy management plans.
  • Follow-up interviews will track how the inventories and audits have helped the system operators identify and address issues and opportunities.
  • The project information will be used to develop case studies for each system.

Stage 3:  Energy Efficiency for Rural Water Supplies Workshop

  • The Project Team will convene a workshop for water supply system operators in early 2012 .  The workshop will be advertised statewide through the GSRWA water system operator database.
  • The workshop will include a presentation of the work with the four systems identified above.  System operators will be invited to participate in a panel discussion.
