Project Title:
Greater Sullivan County Household Hazardous Waste Education
Related Services:
Project Summary:
Every day, people dump hazardous waste down their drains, into their trash, or onto the ground. These toxins eventually make their way into our drinking water. Teaching people what responsible options they have is critical to keeping our drinking water safe.
The Commission is working with municipalities and volunteers to develop a household hazardous waste committee. The Greater Sullivan County HHW Committee currently has several members, and it is hoped that the membership will grow to represent more Sullivan County towns and the three Merrimack towns in this planning region. The purposes of the committee will be toeducate the public about non-toxic or less-toxic alternatives to common household products, and how to properly dispose of hazardous waste. Committee volunteers will be trained and participate at HHW / Unwanted Medicines collections.
Anyone interested in joining the Committee can contact Victoria Davis at vdavis@uvlsrpc.org
