UVLSRPC Projects

Project Administrator:

Rachel Ruppel

Project Title:

Mascoma River Corridor Management Plan - Phase One

Related Services:

Land Use Planning, Natural Resources

Project Summary:

In anticipation of the Mascoma River designation, the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission (UVLSRPC) sought and secured funding to assist the Mascoma River Local Advisory Committee with the creation of a Corridor Management Plan, which will  serve as the guiding document for the river’s balanced management and protection. Funding for this project is provided by NH Department of Environmental Services through Section 604(b) of the Clean Water Act.

This project will accomplish the first phase of the creation of a River Corridor Management Plan: identify the critical issues for the Mascoma River. For Phase 1, UVLSRPC identified priority issues through brainstorming sessions and a community survey. UVLSRPC conducted one public educational workshop related to a critical river issue - septic system maintenance.

The desired outcomes of this project were:

1) to engage the public in the stewardship of the Mascoma River watershed

2) to identify priority issues to be included in the Mascoma River Corridor Management Plan.

Additional Information

UVLSRPC and Mascoma River Local Advisory Committee sponsored a Septic Sense workshop on septic system operations and maintenance.

Granite State Designers and Installers donated a small number of copies of "Septic System Recordkeeping File and Owner's Guide" - these are printed on file folders to help homeowners store their septic system records. UVLSRPC is giving these away to interested citizens. If you would like one, please contact Adam Ricker at (603) 448-1680.
