Project Summary:

The RPC has received $180,000 to perform seven tasks:

1.  Food Scraps Composting School:  Provide a two-day food scraps composting training to municipalities and other interested parties.  Analyze at least two potential Upper Valley composting sites.  Provide at least one town pilot food scraps composting project.

2.  Municipal Waste Management Technical Assistance:  Provide at least four trainings for increasing recycling to transfer station attendants.  Provide on-side visists to at least eight towns to review and expand universal waste collection.  Develop town-specific brochures for at least two towns; provide other assistance as needed; develop waste managment education materials for town web sites.

3.  School Custodial Green Cleaning Conference, Workshop, and Support.  We will work with partners to provide a conference on school green cleaning and workshops to provide hands-on training to custodians.  We will provide a pilot school green cleaning program.

4.  School Chemical Safety Workshops and School chemical Evaluations.  Two workshops will be provided to school teachers to reduce toxicity of their chemistry and art classrooms.  We will visit at least two schools to help them sort out unwanted overly toxic chemicals.

5.  Nontoxic Cleaning and Safe Personal Care Program.  We hope to get an intern to work on this project doing outreach to teach people simple ways to cut down on toxic products in their homes.

6.  Household Hazardous Waste Regional Professional Development.  Work with interested NH HHW Coordinators to develop Statewide educational campaign to teach people not to buy hazardous products in the first place and what to do with them once they have them.

7.  Household Hazardous Waste Collections.  Increase participation by increasing satellite collections in smaller towns.  Evaluate regional permanent collection facility.
