Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission

NH Route 120 Corridor Management Plan

In December 2006, the UVLSRPC began work on Phase I of the NH Route 120 Corridor Management Plan. This project is part of the New Hampshire Statewide Planning and Research Special Studies program and is being funded by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and the UVLSRPC.

The purpose of the study is to begin a continuing, cooperative planning process between the City of Lebanon, the Town of Hanover, the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation for comprehensive land use, transportation, and infrastructure planning along the Route 120 Corridor.

Throughout the planning process there will be many opportunities for everyone to participate, both through focus groups and public informational meetings.

The Goals for the Project Include:

  • Assessing future land use and infrastructure needs and opportunities for the NH Route 120 Corridor
  • Assessing opportunities to mitigate the adverse impacts of current and future development and considering appropriate long term management strategies to be jointly implemented by the City of Lebanon and the Town of Hanover
  • Ensuring that these management strategies are coordinated with the existing infrastructure, community land use controls, and common vision for the future of the corridor
Phase I of the NH Route 120 Corridor Management Plan will include:
  • Facilitating cooperation between Route 120 Corridor communities
  • Encouraging public participation in the planning process
  • Gathering data and enumerating existing conditions
  • Developing three build-out scenarios estimating potential growth
Phase II (funding dependent) of the NH Route 120 Corridor Management Plan will include:
  • Identifying options and alternatives for the use of the corridor
  • Recommending initiatives that each community can pursue for the betterment of the corridor, including strategies for developing access management programs, corridor-specific land use policies, fiscal plans, capital improvement programs, and planning for any required long-term investments within the corridor

The Phase I Interim Report for the Route 120 Corridor Management Plan was completed in September 2007. Phase II, dependent on funding, is scheduled to begin in early 2008. For additional information, please contact Peter Dzewaltowski or Nate Miller at 603-448-1680.
