Coordinated Plans for Human and Public Transportation Services 2012

UVLSRPC Projects

Project Administrator:

Patricia Crocker, MPA

Project Title:

Coordinated Plans for Human and Public Transportation Services 2012

Related Services:

Economic Development, Energy, Land Use Planning, Transportation

Project Summary:

The Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission(UVLSRPC) staff undertook the revision and update of the Southern Grafton and Sullivan Counties Regional Coordinated Human Service and Public Transportation Plans which were  first undertaken in 2008. Both the 2008 and the new 2012 coordination plans have helped guide the development of transportation improvements and innovations for the region.

Coordinated transportation plans are required to be revisited every five years in order to obtain New Hampshire Department of Transportation(NH DOT) funding but their main goal was to create a comprehensive strategy to assist state and community agencies, transportation service providers, and communities in coordinating public transit and human service transportation efforts. Goals for the plans included:

  • Identifying unmet transportation needs
  • Identifying transportation service gaps (e.g. un-served and underserved areas) and overlaps (e.g. service redundancies)
  • Completing an inventory of existing public transit and human service transportation providers
  • Identifying strategies to maximize the use of limited transportation resources through coordination
  • Enhancing mobility within and between communities
  • Increasing access to jobs, schools, medical centers, and other essential human services

Additional Information

The Grafton-Coos and Sullivan County Regional Coordination Councils  served as Advisory Committees to provide input and guidance throughout the development of the plans. The general public and regional employers were surveyed and then invited to provide comments on draft plans at public meetings.
