Energy Efficiency for Rural Water Supplies - Operator Education

UVLSRPC Projects

Project Administrator:

Michael McCrory

Project Title:

Energy Efficiency for Rural Water Supplies - Operator Education

Related Services:

Natural Resources, Land Use Planning, Energy

Project Summary:

UVLSRPC and its partners, US EPA and Granite State Rural Water Association, developed an outreach and education program targeted at rural water supply system operators to increase energy efficiency for their systems.  The intent is to enable reduced energy consumption, improved system operations, and lower operational costs.  The cost savings can then be transferred to customers.

This project included the following tasks:

  • The Project Team engaged four water supply systems to conduct detailed inventories and baseline assessments of energy usage for four water supply systems.
  • Requests were submitted to the electrical utility companies to perform intensive energy audits of the water supply systems to identify energy efficiency opportunities and likely incentive programs to make improvements.
  • The Project Team convened a workshop for water supply system operators in March 2012.  The workshop was be advertised statewide through the GSRWA water system operator database.
  • The workshop included a presentation of the work with the four systems identified above.  System operators participated panel discussions and interactive exercises to develop energy management plans.
