Mascoma River Nomination

UVLSRPC Projects

Project Administrator:

Rachel Ruppel

Project Title:

Mascoma River Nomination

Related Services:

Natural Resources

Project Summary:

Based on citizen interest in pursuing a nomination for the Mascoma River to be designated into the State Rivers Management and Protection Program, Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission (UVLSRPC) applied for and received funding to coordinate the nomination effort.

UVLSRPC assisted the Mascoma River Nominating Committee with the research necessary to complete the nomination report and to conduct public outreach on the nomination. UVLSRPC worked with the Committee and municipal boards in Lebanon, Enfield and Canaan to gain broad public support for the nomination, a necessary step for a successful river nomination. The nomination included the segments of the Mascoma River from Canaan Center to its confluence with the Connecticut River in West Lebanon.

UVLSRPC submitted the nomination report to the Rivers Coordinator at the NH Department of Environmental Services on June 1, 2010, and UVLSRPC worked to coordinate a river tour and public hearing with the State Rivers Management Advisory Committee in August 2010.

Additional Information

The Mascoma River is now a Designated River under the Rivers Management and Protection Program, effective May 9, 2011. HB 336, designating segments of the Mascoma River, passed the House and Senate unanimously and was signed by Governor Lynch.
