Project Title:

Sugar River Watershed - Hazard Mitigation Planning for River Erosion

Related Services:

Natural Resources, Emergency Management

Project Summary:

Through out the Summer of 2013 there will be assessments conducted on identfied reaches of river in the Sugar River Watershed.  The reaches chosen by analyzing key natural physical attributes of the river and its valley using topographic and geological maps and aerial photography.

Through the measurements and assessments taken on each reach, reaches are scored for erosion sensitivity.  The score allows for the determination of the vulberability of a particular reach to future erosive events that could lead to bank failures and the subsequent potential for property and infrastructure damage during high flow events.

The data from the assessments will be able to be incorporated into the municipalities Hazard Mitigation Plan as a future project to under take.
