Additional Information
In 2005 Sullivan County community members identified limited transportation as a major barrier to access to health care and community life for citizens of this rural area of New Hampshire. The Sullivan County Mobility Project was created to tackle the problem. The goal of the project is to improve access and mobility that enhances the quality of life for individuals while efficiently coordinating eonomic resources.
Seed funding from the New Hampshire Endowment for Health has leveraged Federal Transit Administration funding through the NH Department of Transportation to improve access to care and mobility for all citizens of the county with particular emphasis on providing services to individuals with a disability and citizens over age 60.
The project formed the Sullivan County Regional Coordination Council for Community Transportation. Accomplishments to date include:
A five-year transportation coordination plan
A transportation directory for the region and
A website featuring transportation information and resources
Identification of lead agency to coordinate transportation
A toll free telephone number for consumers
Developed standards for drivers, volunteers, and transportation services
