The typical accounting system does not provide the true costs of some activities. Solid waste management is one of those activities which is often inaccurate.
The Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission(UVLSRPC) assisted interested municipalities within Sullivan County to develop a full-cost accounting system to determine the true costs and revenues of solid waste management. This system can assist towns in comparing their solid waste systems with other private or public systems. It takes into account, overhead, use of other department equipment and staff, depreciation of equipment, and any other relevant items.
