Project Summary:

The goal of the project was to improve mobility for elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities throughout Sullivan, Grafton and Coos Counties. The FTA Section 5310 program provided financial assistance for transportation services which had been planned, designed, and carried out to meet the special transportation needs of elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities in all areas—urbanized, small urban, and rural. The program required coordination with other Federally-assisted programs and services in order to make the most efficient use of Federal resources.

Additional Information

Acting as a sponsoring agency, the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission (UVLSRPC) subcontracted with three non-profit transportation providers to improve and expand access to medical,life sustaining, social and enriching services in underserved communities as well as to extend opportunities to access major medical services where none currently exists.

The Grafton County Senior Citizens Council  expanded bus services to Orford, Lyme and The Newfound Area to serve the communities of Bristol, Alexandria, Bridgewater, Hebron and Groton as well as the towns of Plymouth, Holderness, Ashland, Rumney, Dorchester, Warren, and Wentworth. Eighteen percent of the Estimated Area Populations are senior citizens and individuals with a disability.

Utilizing volunteer drivers, North Country Transit will provide expanded non-emergency medical transportation for citizens over age 60 and individuals with a disability to facilities and services located outside of the Coos and Northern Grafton County regions .

Community Alliance of Human Services will be the lead agency for delivery of volunteer driver transportation throughout Sullivan County. The goal of the project was and is  to expand access to medical, social, life sustaining and enriching services in under-served communities.
