Economic Development
The Commission has historically been well engaged in the economic development planning discipline and was originally funded as an Economic Development entity.
Currently the Commission is administering Brownfields Assessment funding to assist communities in redeveloping downtown and mill district sites or renewal projects.
The Commission also serves as a Local Development District (LDD) for the UVLS region under the Northern Border Regional Commission Grant Programs.
The Commission additionally is connected to the Economic Development Administration process through the US Department of Commerce and will be working toward updating the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. As the economic development needs are expressed by communities within the region, the Commission hopes to become a more valuable resource in this area. The Commission would benefit from community input on these issues.
